Newcastle Emlyn women's hockey team suffered a loss to Gowerton in their last match before Christmas.
The game, played in Crymych, saw Newcastle Emlyn struggle against Gowerton's attacking gameplay, particularly in the wet conditions.
Despite starting with 10 players behind the ball, Newcastle Emlyn could not find their footing in the first half.
Gowerton managed to score the first goal just minutes before half-time.
In the second half, Newcastle Emlyn's forwards, Enfys Davies, Sara Patterson, Emily Barber, and Sioned Davies, tried to use their speed to get past Gowerton's last defender but were unsuccessful.
Gowerton's momentum from their first goal led to them scoring a second goal shortly thereafter.
Newcastle Emlyn's players Mel Williams, Rosie Hughes, Amy Purnell, and Alaw Elisa worked hard to slow down Gowerton's gameplay and regain possession.
However, with minutes to go in the game, Gowerton won a penalty corner, which resulted in their third and final goal, making the score 0-3.
Elin Williams was awarded player of the match for her impressive saves throughout the game.
However, the captains of both teams decided to give their player of the match award to Alaw Elisa for her relentless effort on the field.
The Newcastle Emlyn team expressed gratitude to their sponsors, Ceibo and Davies and Davies Furnitures, for supporting them in the recent match.
Following a challenging first half of the season, the women’s team is now set to take a well-deserved break over the Christmas period, before gearing up for the second half of the season.
