Newcastle Emlyn Ladies Hockey team clinched their first win of the season in a nail-biting match against Cardiff Medics.

Travelling to the capital with only 11 players after a disappointing loss the previous week, the odds appeared stacked against them.

The match began at a frenetic pace, with Cardiff's youthful team exerting pressure on Emlyn's defence.

Despite their best efforts, Cardiff Medics managed to score three goals within the first 15 minutes.

However, Emlyn's spirits lifted towards the end of the first half, thanks to determined efforts from left-winger Amy Heighton and Emily Barber, whose shot found the back of the net, reducing the deficit to 3-1.

Emlyn entered the second half with renewed vigour.

Lois Davies and Flo Plant's effective collaboration on the right flank resulted in a penalty corner, a golden opportunity for the Emlyn women.

Enfys Davies seized this chance, scoring after a well-executed pass from Sara Patterson and Sioned Davies.

Despite Cardiff Medics quickly retaliating with another goal, making the score 4-2, the contest was far from over.

Possession swung rapidly between the two teams.

Izzy Yates seized an opportunity, passing into space for Sioned Davies, who sprinted from halfway to score in the corner of the goal.

With the scoreline tightening, another penalty corner was awarded.

It was Sara Patterson's turn to shine, knocking the ball mid-air into the back of the net.

The teams were now level at 4-4.

The Emlyn ladies, demonstrating commendable tenacity, pushed for another goal.

Sioned Davies intercepted the ball between the medics' defenders, sprinting from halfway to beat the goalkeeper once again, giving Emlyn the lead.

Cardiff Medics made life difficult for Emlyn in the remaining minutes of the game, but Emlyn's defenders and goalkeeper worked tirelessly to clear every ball out to the wings.

When the final whistle blew, Newcastle Emlyn Ladies Hockey team erupted in celebration, having secured a hard-earned 5-4 victory.

Elin Williams was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.

Captains also highlighted Izzy Yates and Sioned Davies for their relentless efforts throughout the match.

The team is set to play again on November 9, away against Cardiff University's second team.
