Cardigan Amateur Boxing Club secured three wins out of four at the Prizefighter ABC event.

The club's successful night at Carmarthen Showground saw Llyr Jones, Dion Jones, and Billy Myers triumph in their respective bouts.

Light-heavyweight Josh Mellor narrowly missed out on victory, losing on a split decision to home fighter Tom Griffiths.

Cardigan's evening began with Llyr Jones delivering an impressive performance in his 70kg youth match-up against Lewis Hanford (Prizefighter ABC), winning by a split decision.

Dion Jones earned a unanimous points decision over Prizefighter's Zac Robinson in the 63kg junior contest.

Billy Myers continued his impressive resurgence at the age of 31 with a unanimous points win in a 65kg senior bout against Eifion Evans of Prizefighter.

The Carmarthen fighter proved challenging, but Myers turned on the power and made every shot count in a rough encounter.

Lastly, 24-year-old Mellor was left reflecting on 'the one that got away' after Prizefighter southpaw Tom Griffiths secured a narrow, but deserved, victory over Cardigan's 2023 Welsh champ in an 80kg senior contest.

Griffiths generally kept Mellor at long range, with the Cardigan fighter struggling to close the gap and land his trademark powerful punches.

When Mellor finally managed to get close in round two, he forced Griffiths to take a standing eight count, but this proved a rare success, and Griffiths proceeded to box his way to victory on a split decision.

Cardigan ABC coach, Guy Croft, said Mellor had shed too much weight in the days beforehand.

He told the Tivyside Advertiser: "Josh said he felt drained, but it was a good lesson learned.

"Tom was a southpaw with a nice long left hand with which he caught Josh more than once."
