CARDIGAN ABC’S Dyfan Lewis maintained the club’s purple patch of recent weeks by battling to a narrow victory over Llanelli’s Kai Evans (Stallion ABC) in the south Wales town on Friday evening.
Competing in the 42kg class, the 13-year-old Eglwyswrw schoolboy dominated from the start with an array of powerful shots.
A fierce right hand led to his Llanelli opponent receiving a standing count in the opening round and at that point Evans looked on course for a stoppage.
But from then on Evans, dipping very low, became more elusive leaving the Cardigan boxer struggling to land a clean shot.
“I was amazed when they announced Dyfan the winner by a split decision,” Cardigan ABC head coach Guy Croft commented afterwards. “He was a clear winner for me.”
