Newcastle Emlyn Ladies were home at Crymych on Saturday where they faced Brecon. Although Brecon had push back, Emlyn re-gained possession quickly through work of midfielders Elen Hill and Efa Jones. The attacking trio Enfys Davies, Sioned Fflur and Sara Patterson were working hard trying different types of shots towards the goal, but central midfielder Melanie Williams managed to get the home team off the mark. It was also Williams’ first goal of the season.
Within minutes, Emlyn were attacking again down the left wing with great linking between Carys Owen and Patterson to get to the attacking circle. Enfys found herself in a scoring position and placed another in the goal.
2-0 down, Brecon found their stride and started to challenge Emlyn’s defenders Ellie Lloyd, Sioned Davies and Ffion Davies. The three managed to keep their attackers from entering their attacking circle and re-gained possession on multiple occasions.
Brecon managed to win a penalty corner but Caryl-Haf Lloyd’s speed from the line meant that she was determined not to let the ball go past her, and this she did. After battling to get more goals, the score remained 2-0 to the home team at half time.
Emlyn started strong once again with Rosie Hughes and Sioned Fflur using their speed on the right wing to get to the circle. Williams was eager to get herself on the scoreboard once again and managed a flick into goal to widen the lead. Amy Purnell made her mark on the left wing, working well with Lois Davies in the middle to release the ball to the attackers. It was then Patterson’s turn to strike towards goal to get herself on the score sheet, 4-0.
Youngster Flo Plant stood out particularly in the second half on both wings, carrying strongly and connecting well with her fellow teammates. With the 10 outfield players having a busy game, this meant that goalkeeper Elin Williams didn’t touch the ball once!
The final score remained 4-0 to the home team and player of the match was awarded to Flo Plant. Newcastle Emlyn Ladies would like to thank Y Sgwar and Mark Hayward Hair for sponsoring the match. The ladies are home once again for their last game of the year against Bridgend next Saturday.
