Cardigan ABC’s Commonwealth Games welterweight champ Ioan Croft embarked on a new chapter of his career at the weekend when he took charge of a corner for the first time.
And Croft made a successful start as a ‘number one’ when Cardigan 15-year-old Ronnie Barker achieved his first victory at his third attempt at Towy ABC’s show at Tumble Workingmen’s Club.
Boxing at 62 kg, the 6ft-tall Barker was pitted against the awkward Rio Dent, of Swansea’s Warehouse ABC, but maintained his composure to secure a unanimous points decision.
It proved the highlight of Cardigan’s night as 11-year-old schoolboy Max Kirkwood dropped a unanimous points decision to Newtown’s Jed Jones, while debutant Caio Jones came up second best against the much taller Brandon Dart (Gwent ABC), despite a spirited showing.
