AFTER reeling off seven wins in Division One and pulling clear of the field Newcastle Emlyn Reserves were brought down to earth with a bump as they crashed 4-1 at home against Lampeter Town.

The Reds will no doubt be anxious for a return to winning ways as a matter of urgency but they face another tough assignment this Saturday with an away game against champions New Quay.

Emlyn could have no complaints about this first defeat as they were soundly beaten by a well-organised outfit that could have a say in the destination of the various trophies up for grabs at the business end of the campaign.

The visitors were on top from the word go and led by two goals at the break, the first poked home by Luke Lovell and the advantage doubled when Terry Witts moved up for a corner.

When the home side conceded a penalty early in the second half Lovell got his second goal of the game, influential midfielder James Gudgeon netted the third at a corner and Jason Jones made it plain sailing.

Refusing to be carried away by one result vastly experienced Lampeter boss Terry Jones said “These are very early days and there is a long way to go. We are taking it one game at a time.”

* NEWCASTLE Emlyn slipped into the bottom three of the Welsh League Division Three after a 5-1 defeat against Lliswerry in Gwent.

The Reds were in contention until just before the break when midfielder Joe Howells put the homesters in front and second half strikes by Chris Pear (2), Max Peffy and Dan Edwards wrapped up the points.

Emlyn will be hoping for a change of luck this weekend when hosting Chepstow Town in the first round of the Welsh Cup.
