THESE are very early days of course, but Costcutter League Division One runaway leaders Newcastle Emlyn Reserves could take some catching, especially if they continue in the rich vein of form they have shown from the start with seven wins on the bounce.

The Reds are already eight points clear of the field and with the likes of champions New Quay slipping up there is a growing feeling among followers that a reserve team could lift the title for the first time in the league’s 82-year history.

The latest victory, a 3-0 win over Crannog at the Urdd Centre was no more than the visitors deserved. Prolific marksman Phil Furney bagged a brace of goals and Joe Rees was also on target.

Llandysul welcomed back the league’s top goal-scorer Simon Davies against visitors St Dogmaels and he wasted no time in making his presence felt. As the Swallows emerged 3-1 winners Davies was again on the score-sheet along with Huw Evans and Jesse Clapton.

Cardigan Town returned to form after three defeats on the trot as the Magpies sprang an 8-2 win over bottom club Aberaeron Reserves. The young homesters gave it their best shot but the visitors, who were depleted, held most of the aces and were comfortable winners.

For the Magpies, who led 3-1 at the break, converted striker Michael Diggle hit a hat-trick and the other marksmen were Rhys Davies (2), Jack Thomas (2) and Shane Lawrence.

Fourth in the table Lampeter Town completed back-to-back successes with a 3-1 win against Bargod Rangers at Parc Puw. Dangerous raider Luke Lovell netted twice and Josh Roper got the third goal.

Aberporth, who have had points deducted for failing to fulfil a fixture, chalked up a 3-2 win at Llanybydder. For the Airmen Chris Jones (2) and Mathew Smith were the marksmen with Carl Dyer and Darren Jones replying.

The second division top of the table clash between Felinfach and Cilgerran Rovers went the way of the Milkmen who emerged 4-2 winners.

Kieran Boyes (2) and Kevin Taylor netted for the homesters and a visiting defender put through his own goal.

League newcomers Llanon were buried under an eleven goal avalanche against visitors Llanboidy. Clive Jones went nap for the Cae Dandre outfit, Dai Thomas netted four and Rhys Jenkins bagged a brace.
