CARDIGAN Golf Club had a busy bank holiday weekend recently. The Eivryn James Challenge Bowl was held on Bank Holiday Saturday, with the excellent weather encouraging a good turnout of 44 for this strokeplay event. The winner on countback was Andrew Rodda with a nett 71 off a handicap of 5. In second place was Roger Llewelyn again with a nett 71 off a handicap of 8, and John Barlow came third with a nett 72 off a handicap of 12. The weather continued to hold for the Bank Holiday barbecue which was well supported as usual. On Bank Holiday Monday, the Bendal Cup was held, again in strokeplay format. Scoring was generally good, with 56 entries in all categories. The winner with an excellent nett 67 playing off a handicap of 10 was Jack Brookes. In second place was Steff Evans with a nett 68 off a handicap of 4, and John Newcombe came third with a nett 71 off a handicap of 16. The winner of the Ladies category was Helen Andrews with a nett 77 playing off 16.

Cardigan Golf Club held its Finals Day recently for the various Club competitions which have been competed for over the Summer months. In the Club Championship, the final was again contested between Rich Emanuel and Henry Malloy, with defending champion Heny Malloy once again coming through, winning by 1 up. In the Ladies Scratch Championship, defending champion Janet Jones won again, this time defeating Ladies Captain Lorna Thompson. The results of the other competitions were: Ned Williams Cup: James Pegg beat Vaughan Jones; Seniors Cup: Barrie Davies beat John Hagan; Norman Griffiths 4BBB: James Pegg and Rich Emanuel beat Simon Bentley and Blair Hogan; Rabbits Cup: Huw Jones beat John Davies; Reg Lewis Cup: Gloria Parsons beat Janet Jones; Vivian Williams KO: Shelagh Greer beat Jan Robinson; Mixed Foursomes: Eleri Davies & Peter Ward beat Janet Jones & Keith Lewis
