DARTS circles in the Cardigan area are buzzing after a first ever magical nine-darter in league competition.
The magnificent feat was achieved by 35-year-old James Bevan in the first week of the Hope & Anchor Singles League when playing experienced campaigner John Locke in the Premier Division.
After throwing two maximums Bevan, who joined the league two seasons ago, hit a seventh treble 20 on the trot, treble 19, double 12 to uproarious applause from players in the three divisions.
Some 15 years ago former Welsh International Mark ‘Chalkie’ Lewis was within a whisker of the perfect finish in the Cardigan & District League but going for double 12 his ninth dart finished just on the wrong side of the wire.
Winner of the division two and division one titles in successive seasons and the early leader in the top flight Bevan said “I just couldn’t believe it. I’d like to say a big thank you to John Locke who sportingly gave me time to compose myself after the nine-darter.”
