Five junior members from Poppit Sands Surf Lifesaving Club recently competed at the British Surf Lifesaving Championships at Saunton Sands, Devon. This is the first time in over 15 years Poppit was represented at these Championships, with a very high standard of competition against large clubs from England, Scotland and Ireland.
Sea conditions at Saunton were extremely difficult with big waves and strong currents. Each age group had over 60 competitors and after qualifying through heats, Alfie Bodenham came in strongly in 5th position followed by Morgan Davies in 8th in the U15's Ski Race Final. Lowri Davies completed both the Under 13's Ocean Lady and Under 13's Swim coming in 10th position in both races.
All five members felt that it was a great challenge and enjoyed experiencing the extreme conditions that the Devonshire coast provides compared to here in Cardigan Bay.
