NICOLA Howell from the Starlight Riding Centre, near Newcastle Emlyn had a memorable weekend of dressage at the Petplan Area Festival Championships held at Cel Aeron, Aberaeron recently.

In the Novice 38 Open, Nicola had a combined score from both judges of 68.22 per cent. This put her in first place with her young horse Dante, and this in his first British Dressage Championship. Finlay, Nicola’s other horse, achieved 68.06% in the same class and section and was awarded second place.

The Elementary 45 Open class was next, and Nicola won this class on Finlay with 69.14%. Dante then competed in the Freestyle to Music for the first time where the pair finished in third in the Novice Open.

‘ And to top the day, I did the freestyle to music in the Elementary with Finlay and he won with 73.08%. These classes were judged by a list one judge and the comments afterwards were fabulous, so I now have four qualifying classes to do at the Winter Championships at Hartpury in April next year,’ explained a delighted Nicola.

Nicola is now working hard towards the Home International dressage competition to be held in Scotland in three weeks time.
