County representatives have raised concerns at the lack of dental services for their constituents in the Newcastle Emlyn area. Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM and Jonathan Edwards MP have raised their concern after interim services, provided by a dental practice in Cardigan, has ceased support of the town due to recruitment issues. This leaves Newcastle Emlyn with no dental services.
Jonathan Edwards MP said: "The situation is simply unacceptable. We were given assurances that when the previous service was withdrawn from the community the Health board would be ensuring that cover was secured, and that the people of Newcastle Emlyn would have access to an NHS dentist. Now it appears that this interim service has ceased and anyone in the town needing access to an NHS dentist will be denied that opportunity.”
Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM added: "This is a basic health right and after being assured that interim services would be available I am naturally frustrated that this is now not the case. I plan to raise this issue with the Health Minister at the Assembly as I feel it is important that these concerns are taken to the very top. I have also written to the local health board seeking clarification on the matter and urging them to ensure a service is made available to people in the area.”
