Division Four (West) Cardigan 7 New Dock Stars 31 Cardigan suffered the disappointment of defeat against New Dock Stars as they were unable to match the power of the Stars' pack and visiting flanker Martin Williams claimed three of the Llanelli-based outfit's five tries, which were all scored by forwards.
To be fair to Cardigan, they tried to use their pacy back division but couldn't sustain the platform necessary to launch concerted attacks, despite the genuine efforts of skipper Richard Jones and his young forwards.
Yet they were very much in the game at the half-way mark as New Dock only led by 12-7 by dint of the fact that they scored their second try close to the break when Williams ploughed over from a driving maul. The Stars had taken an early lead with a try by second row Lee Williams, converted by outside half Clark Jones, before Emlyn replied with an excellent try when play was swung wide in each direction before full back Kevin Evans popped up to score a try which he also did well to convert.
But the Stars used their forward power to good effect after the interval and Williams scored another twice, the first when Cardigan flanker Dylan Richard was sin-binned, alongside a try by prop Stuart Taylor. Clark Jones notched another two conversions and New Dock were good value for victory - and a double since they had won at home by 14-11 in a far closer tussle.
