Plaid Cymru’s Elin Jones has welcomed an announcement that Lampeter University will receive £14.03m in funding from the Assembly Government over the next three years.
The Assembly Government’s Education Minister, Jane Hutt AM, has announced that funding is being made available to facilitate the merger of Lampeter University with Trinity College, Carmarthen.
Elin Jones AM has very strongly lobbied the Education Minister regarding the need to safeguard Lampeter University’s future.
Commenting on the funding announcement, Ceredigion AM Elin Jones said: "This very substantial investment of £14.03m demonstrates the Assembly Government’s commitment to the future of Lampeter University as it prepares to merge with Trinity College, Carmarthen.
"Lampeter University makes a significant contribution not only in terms of local higher education but also to the area’s economy. I have therefore been in active discussion with the Education Minister regarding the need to ensure a strong future for the new, merged institution and I’m pleased that she is now in a position to announce this funding.
"By ensuring that institutions like Lampeter University in West Wales are able to benefit from significant investment in higher education – such as the funding announced by the Education Minister – the One Wales Government has confirmed that it is committed to supporting the whole of Wales".
