A Cardigan ABC boxer was crowned champion of an Olympic style three-day tournament on Sunday (November 24).

Josh Mellor, who competes at cruiserweight, won the 2024 Warehouse Box Cup in Neath and his bout in the final against Jordan John was deemed ‘the fight of the tournament.’

However, the ring was small on Sunday and our fight was a bit of a war.

“I’m happy I won the tournament but I’m just as excited about winning fight of the night, especially as my local pub (Seven Stars) streamed the bout.”

Josh also posted on his Facebook page: “Warehouse Box Cup 2024 Champion. I beat a tough and game opponent in the final. I work hard for nights like this. Thank you to Kev, Rob Thomas and Billy Goodall for the weekend. What a club.”

Now Josh wants to build on his success and dreams of competing at an international level in the future.

He added: “My ultimate goal is to represent Wales on the international stage. I want to wear the full Wales kit. My next fight is on December 14 and I’m representing the eastern division.”

Josh is part of the same gym that produced Welsh commonwealth medallists, Ioan and Garan Croft, who are set to make their professional debut on December 7 in Ireland.

He added: “We’re very lucky to have them around. They are based in Manchester. But when they come down and visit, they help us out.”

Garan Croft congratulated Josh on Facebook with the following message:

“Fight of the tournament. Never in doubt Josh Mellor. Always in a tear up.”
