A Stourbridge man has raised more than £4,000 for the RNLI in New Quay.

Dale Wilkins, 62, completed a 200-mile walking challenge, visiting 13 lifeboat stations, to raise the money.

The educational consultant and former president of the Rotary Club of Stourbridge started his walk in July 2023 and finished on March 4, 2024, the RNLI's 200th anniversary, in New Quay.

Mr Wilkins said: "I chose the RNLI because of the bicentenary anniversary and because of the Rotary Club's long connection with RNLI Stourbridge branch.

"As Frank Clifford was a former president of the Rotary Club and main benefactor of the previous Mersey class all-weather lifeboat, it seemed a logical choice for my presidential year, and the reason we chose New Quay as the final destination."

Mr Wilkins thanked all those who supported him during his challenge, including his wife who was his "support crew" for the entire 200 miles.

He said: "I was also joined for one stretch by two Rotary colleagues John Rostron and Cliff Gammon, and by my grown-up children and their partners for three of the twelve days on which I walked.

"In total I walked about 140 miles solo and the rest accompanied."

Daniel Potter, New Quay RNLI coxswain, expressed gratitude for Mr Wilkins' efforts.

He said: "We would like to thank Mr Wilkins and the ongoing support from Stourbridge over the years, and everyone who supported him on his challenge.

"The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea and we rely on donations to keep our lifeboats and crew afloat.

"Every contribution is significant, and we are very appreciative of your support."
