A family fun day was held to celebrate the diverse cultures and heritages of people living in Ceredigion.

The event, which took place on October 26 at Ceredigion Museum, was funded by the South West and Mid Wales Community Cohesion Fund.

It was organised by Ceredigion County Council, Aberystwyth University, and Hywel Dda University Health Board.

The theme for the day was ‘Cynefin’, the Welsh word for ‘the place where we belong’.

Councillor Catrin M S Davies, Ceredigion County Council’s equality champion, started the day by reminding people of the various languages spoken by people in Ceredigion, including Polish, Romanian, Arabic, Chinese, French, Hungarian, Nepalese, Igbo, and Pashto, alongside Welsh and English.

She said: "We want everyone in Ceredigion, including people whose heritage and culture derive from other parts of the world, to feel that Ceredigion is their Cynefin."

Families tried different foods, decorated pebbles, played giant connect four, and joined an interactive drumming workshop.

They also had the opportunity to talk with each other, find common interests, and share stories.

There were exhibitions and information stalls by various organisations, including Lampeter mosque, St Paul’s Methodist Centre, West Wales Domestic Abuse Service, and Dyfed Powys Police.

The day ended with a poetry performance by Suzanne Smart and closing remarks from Professor Uzo Iwobi CBE, chief executive of Race Council Cymru, lead for Black History Wales, and coordinator for Black Lives Matter Wales Collective.
