AN ‘EMOTIONALLY unstable’ man ‘left a mark’ on his ex-partner after he threatened to kill her.

Sebastian Stoian, 45, of Temple Terrace in Lampeter, was accused of stalking the woman in Lampeter on August 22 causing her to fear that violence would be used against her.

He was further accused of making threats to kill her on that date.

Stoian initially denied the offences, but then pleaded guilty to stalking involving fear of violence and making threats to kill when he appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on October 3.

“Some of the strongest mitigation I can make is that, prior to this offence, he was of entirely clean character,” said Caitlin Brazel, in mitigation.

“His actions on this occasion were entirely out of character for him.

“The defendant has expressed what appears to be very genuine remorse.

“The time he has already spent in custody has been a significant wake-up call for Mr Stoian.”

She added that the defendant now accepted his behaviour on that evening was “very foolish”.

Addressing the defendant, Judge Geraint Walters said: “At the time you committed these offences you were going through what appears to be a permanent break-up with your then-partner.

“From everything that I have read, it’s plain to me you were emotionally unstable as a result of the breakdown of the relationship.

“It is against that background that you succumbed to committing these offences.

“They have left their mark against your partner.

“You have never been in trouble before, you have shown some signs of remorse and have indicated a determination to move on from this rather unpleasant episode in your life.”

Stoian was sentenced to 12 months for making threats to kill, and six months – running concurrently – for the stalking offence. These were suspended for two years.

The defendant must also complete 100 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

His ex-partner was handed a five-year restraining order against him.
