Ceredigion's Community Safety Partnership (CSP) has unveiled its safety strategy for 2024-2027.
The CSP, which includes representatives from the police, council, fire and rescue authority, health, and probation services, has identified key areas to focus on in their mission to protect communities from crime and make people feel safer.
Councillor Matthew Vaux, Ceredigion's cabinet member for partnerships, housing, legal and governance, and public protection, said: "In 2023, the Ceredigion Community Safety Partnership undertook a strategic assessment with the aim of identifying the main crime and disorder issues affecting the county.
"Based on the evidence collated from the assessment, the Ceredigion Community Safety Partnership agreed on a number of priorities for their Community Safety Strategy."
The strategy is not only focused on reducing criminal activity but also improving public confidence and the overall feeling of safety within communities.
It aims to ensure effective allocation of resources and prioritisation of activities.
For the 2024-2027 period, the strategy has prioritised tackling sexual offences, violence against women and girls, the illegal supply of drugs and substance misuse, and domestic abuse.
In terms of making people feel safer, the partnership will focus on burglary, online crime, fraud, cold calling, criminal damage, drug and alcohol misuse, and a visible police presence.
Barry Rees, chairperson of the Ceredigion Community Safety Partnership and Ceredigion County Council’s corporate director, said: "We are proud of the relationships we have built, and the work that has been accomplished to date since the establishment of the Ceredigion Community Safety Partnership in 1999.
"As we deliver our new community safety strategy, we look forward to working closely with the communities of Ceredigion to ensure that our county continues to be a thriving and safe place for people to live, work, and visit."
The Community Safety Strategy for 2024-2027, as well as a 'plan on a page' summary, can be viewed online at the Ceredigion County Council website.
