A Cardigan film society will be showing a "dark comedy" as this month's film.

Theatr Mwldan Film Society will present Driving Mum (12A) on Sunday, October 27, at 6.30pm.

The film, directed by Hilmar Oddsson, follows the story of Jon, who is compelled to journey with the corpse of his mother, propped up in the backseat of his car, to fulfil her dying wish of being buried in her home village, a remote location in Iceland.

The journey takes Jon across the country from where his mother died, accompanied only by Bresnef, the dog, while his late mother's hectoring continues from beyond the grave.

Tickets for the screening are available now at the price of £8.40, or at discounted rates of £7.70 and £5.90.

These can be purchased online at mwldan.co.uk round the clock or by calling the box office from Tuesday to Sunday, between 12pm and 8pm, at 01239 621 200.

The film society has a rich history as an award-winning charity that has brought the best of arthouse cinema to West Wales for more than 25 years.

A spokesperson said: "On Sunday evenings from September to May, we screen a carefully curated season of exceptional movies.

"The films range from world cinema through to British independent film, compelling documentaries, and animations.

"We aim to give people in West Wales the opportunity to enjoy thought-provoking films on the big screen.

"Come along and be inspired!"

For the 2024 / 2025 season, the film society will be screening films twice a month, on the second and fourth Sunday, except for December, which will have one screening.

The season started on Sunday, September 8, and will comprise a total of 15 films.

The film society also offers various membership options, which provide different benefits and savings.

The Annual Full Membership costs £40 and allows the holder to enjoy 15 Film Society films at no further cost.

The membership is valid from the date of purchase to August 31, 2025.

The membership also provides a £2.50 discount on adult full price tickets or a £1.80 discount for concessions on all standard cinema screenings, excluding 3D cinema, live broadcast events, and alternative content screenings.

A Film Society card is also provided, which can be collected from the Mwldan box office.

New for 2024, the film society is offering a Joint Full Membership, which allows two people to buy memberships under one account.

This enables the members to reserve seats and buy tickets for two different memberships either separately or together.

The price of a Joint Membership is the same as if the memberships were bought separately.

The TicketSaver card, priced at £27, provides free admission to three Film Society screenings within a 12-month period, along with the same discounts on standard cinema screenings as the Full Membership.

The Young Person's Annual Full Membership, available to those aged 16 to 30, costs £25.

It allows the holder to enjoy 15 Film Society films at no further cost and provides the same discounts on standard cinema screenings as the other memberships.

The membership is valid from the date of purchase to August 31, 2025.

The film society has stated that seats are available on a first-come-first-served basis, so booking early is advised.

Even Full Members need to reserve a seat, which can be done online – the booking system will recognise that the person is a Full Member from their email address, so there will be no charge.

Alternatively, seats can be reserved by calling the Box Office or by walking up before the screening, subject to availability.
