The All Wales Ploughing and Hedging Championships was held in the Towy Valley last Saturday (September 28).

The event at Derimoelion farm in Dryslwyn featured 14 ploughing classes for modern, vintage and horse drawn ploughs.

It also included the highly anticipated 5 Nation Ploughing Championship between Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland.

(Image: Stuart Ladd) The event was switched at short notice from it's original venue further West near Carmarthen and this decision was vindicated as wet weather in the days preceding the competitions made the ground conditions challenging.

Other attractions at the event included hedge laying competitions, fencing competitions, a craft fair, dog show, a mini-digger challenge and musical entertainment from the inimitable Welsh Whisperer.

Ireland claimed the bragging rights in the 5 Nation Championships with Kilkenny's Brian Ireland and Frank Cullen from Wexford clinching top spot.

(Image: Stuart Ladd) Wales's very own Rhodri George from St David's in Pembrokeshire came second in the conventional class.

Rhodri and son James saw further success in the Welsh Championship taking first and third places respectively in the semi-digger class.

Rhodri went on to claim the top spot as overall Welsh Championship with James reserve champion.
