Two people in a sailing dinghy became trapped in a cove on the north Pembrokeshire coast, leading to the launch of two lifeboats.

The dinghy was unable to make its way out of the cove against the prevailing weather conditions, and Fishguard RNLI and HM Coastguard teams from Fishguard and Moylegrove were called to the scene.

Fishguard RNLI’s volunteer crew were paged at 6.47pm on Friday, September 20, with a request to launch the charity's D class inshore lifeboat to a location off Newport Parrog.

Because of the weather conditions, it was decided also launch the Trent class all-weather lifeboat to provide safety cover for the ILB and assist with the casualties if needed.

They were quickly located in the area of the old lifeboat boathouse and Ty Canol campsitde,

“On arrival further information was received that one person had sailed the dinghy out, and teams from HM Coastguard Fishguard & HM Coastguard - Moylegrove had managed to get a line to the casualty in the water and they were now in their care.

“With both casualties safe ashore the ILB crew assisted with recovery of the dinghy before both lifeboats returned to station.
