A letter from Alun Rees, Cardigan
Dear Editor
Ready, Steady, Go!
Further to the Rev. John Powell’s recent letter regarding the siting of signs on Gwbert Road, Cardigan indicating the end of traffic calming measures, I too, do not consider them to be necessary, or appropriate.
Whilst Rev. Powell‘s views related to traffic entering North Road/Aberystwyth Road, I am more concerned about the behaviour of drivers travelling from the mini roundabout in Gwbert Road towards Gwbert.
When a 30mph speed limit existed on the section between the said roundabout and the Ferwig Road junction, the majority of drivers failed to conform to it. Now that it is a 20mph area, even more motorists are flouting the law.
The sign near the mini roundabout telling frustrated drivers they have passed over their last speed bump appears to be an open invitation for most of them to “floor” their accelerator and hurtle up the hill at speeds exceeding 40, 50 and occasionally 60mph.
Without enforcement of the rules though, (and I have yet to see this on the road in question) any talk about speed limits is academic.
Alun Rees, Cardigan
