A Ukrainian refugee who arrived in the UK two years ago with limited English has aced her first round of exams and been regognised for her artistic ability.
Marta Solyliak has just completed Year 10 at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi.
Marta, mum Albina and older brother Andrii arrived in Bristol from Kyiv before moving temporarily to The Urdd Centre in Llangrannog, before eventually settling in their present home near Plwmp.
This summer Marta achieved A* grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This week she started Year 11 and will continue with her GCSE studies. At the recent Caerwedros show Marta’s creative talents were also recognised when she took first prizes in an Art and in a Craft competition.
Marta’s mum Albina and older brother Andrii both work locally. Andrii has also spent two successful seasons playing football for Crannog and now plays for Ffostrasol in the Mid-Wales League. “All three have integrated so well, making many friends and contribute so much to the community,” said friend of the family Davd Price.
