A Cardigan-based wool mill will be opening its doors for an open weekend later this month.

Garthenor Organic, a family business that opened in 1999, is celebrating its 25th birthday with public mill tours and a Q&A session on September 14 and 15.

This historic textile factory-based mill, that had sat dormant for two decades, is the first of its kind in Wales' in the current generation.

Garthenor Organic's innovative approach distinguishes it from others, especially in its commitment to natural, ethical, and sustainable products.

This ethos has manifested in many ways, from producing the world's first certified organic yarn to planting more than 35,000 trees as part of their One Product = One Tree pledge.

These initiatives have contributed significantly to the resurgence of the Welsh Wool industry after a prolonged period of decline marked by mill closures and job loss.

Founder and managing director, Sally Davies, said: "It's heartwarming to see the world being reawakened to the benefits and qualities of wool, a wholly renewable fibre.

"When I started the business 25 years ago from our kitchen table, I could never have imagined where we'd be today.

"The Mill Open Weekend is set to welcome visitors both from within the industry and also individuals and organisations with an interest in local regeneration."

Ms Davies is not alone in her endeavours.

Her son, creative director Jonny King, added: "Building a mill from scratch has been the project of a lifetime.

"It's been bigger and more complicated than we could have ever imagined, but we have a mantra here, that it would be boring if it were easy!

"We're now in the position to catch up with demand, exporting our products across the world, proudly stamped with 'Made in West Wales'."

In addition to the mill tours, open weekend attendees can discover exclusive products and meet the team at Bath House Road, Cardigan, Ceredigion, SA43 1JY.

Tickets are now available on the Garthenor Organic website.
