A Lampeter car show and run raised thousands for the chemotherapy centre at a Ceredigion hospital.

The event, which included a raffle and auction, generated £6,500 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Bronglais Hospital.

Anthea and Dai Jones, along with Lampeter and District Motor Club, organised the charitable event.

Mrs Jones said: "On Sunday 8th October, a very special event took place at Lampeter University Campus which arose from a cause very close to my heart, it was thirty years since my mother was in remission from breast cancer.

"Myself and my husband, Dai, were celebrating 30 years of marriage and when we got married my mother was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, so what better way to celebrate my mother's recovery 30 years on than to raise money for worthy causes."

The show attracted hundreds of attendees and approximately 150 cars, including old, rally, modern and rare vehicles.

Mrs Jones said: "There was a very successful auction in the hands of Andrew Morgan, Morgan and Davies Auctioneers, with hundreds of people gathering to support.

"The auction included many items kindly donated by the local community such as a flight for three people around Ceredigion Bay, rugby tickets, weekends away, hampers and vouchers, just to name a few."

Following the show, about 120 cars meandered through the area's narrow lanes to Llandeilo Rugby Club for refreshments before embarking on a scenic drive back to Lampeter.

Mrs Jones recognised Lampeter and District Motor Club's donation of more than £1,200, plus individual donations of £500 each from HSBC's Mary and Lloyds Bank's Christine.

The event's proceeds totalled £13,000 which was split between the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Bronglais and Peony Breast Care at Prince Philip Hospital.

Nicola Llewelyn, head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: "We’d like to say a huge thank you to Anthea, Dai and all at Lampeter and District Motor Club for raising such an incredible amount.

"The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive."
