Cardigan and Carmarthen young farmers had success in a competition celebrating the RNLI's 200th birthday.
The Cardigan and Carmarthen young farmers’ groups placed in the top three at the Wales Federation of Young Farmers Clubs (YFC) annual display competition at this year’s Royal Welsh Show in Builith Wells.
The competition was inspired by the 200th birthday of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). As such, the six-foot-tall dioramas each pay homage to the charity and its 200 years of saving lives at sea.
Mark Morgan, Aberystwyth RNLI Branch chairman and finals judge, said: "The amount of work these youngsters put into these displays is outstanding."
Each display features intricate details of lifeboats, crew members, and notable rescues.
Facts and information about the RNLI were also present to outline the charity’s journey across two centuries.
The Ceredigion (Cardigan) YFC branch won first place with their diorama.
The Carmarthenshire YFC branch claimed the third spot, coming in just behind the Brecknock YFC branch which won second place.
Founded on March 4, 1824, following an appeal by Sir William Hillary, the RNLI has been at the forefront of sea rescue for 200 years.
Since its inception, RNLI's lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved more than 146,000 lives.
The institution has come a long way with the development of better lifeboats and lifesaving equipment.
Today, the RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland, and is supported by volunteers who donate their time to save others.
The RNLI are running events and activities throughout this, its 200th anniversary year.
