Eight Ceredigion businesses were awarded a five-star food hygiene rating this year (2024).

According to law, all businesses need to be assessed by the local authority and receive a score from one to five.

Five means standards are excellent, one means urgent improvement is required.

Each business is inspected on three elements:

  • Hygienic food handling: Cooking, reheating, cooling, storing and preparing food with good hygiene.
  • Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Suitable layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and necessary pest control for food hygiene.
  • Management of food safety: Evidence that staff have awareness of food safety, ensure food is safe to eat and confidence from the food safety officer that standards will be upkept.
