THESE drivers have had their cases heard in court recently after they were caught drug-driving.

The five drivers got behind the wheel while under the influence of cannabis, cocaine and ketamine.

Their cases were heard at Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court.

Here’s a round-up of the cases.

ANDREW LEWER, 36, of William Street in Cardigan, has been banned from the roads after being caught driving high on cocaine and cannabis.

Lewer was driving a MG on Aberystwyth Road in Cardigan on December 11.

When tested, he recorded having 122 micrograms of benzoylecgonine – the main metabolite of cocaine – per litre (µg/L) of blood, and 10µg/L of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol.

The legal limits for these – to exclude accidental exposure – are 50µg/L and 2µg/L respectively.

He pleaded guilty on two offences of drug-driving on May 22, and a week later was sentenced to a nine-month community order at Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court.

Lewer was banned from driving for 17 months and must complete 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days. He was fined £80 and must pay £85 in costs and a £114 surcharge.

JAMES BURGESS, 34, of Llangoedmor, was caught driving high on ketamine and cannabis in Cardigan.

Burgess was driving a Volkswagen Golf on A484 in Cardigan on December 3. When tested, he recorded having more than 86.4µg/L of ketamine and 6µg/L of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood.

The legal limit for these – to exclude accidental exposure – are 20µg/L and 2µg/L respectively.

Burgess pleaded guilty to two offences of drug-driving at Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on May 29.

He was banned from driving for three years and was sentenced to a one-year community order. Burgess must complete 60 hours of unpaid work and 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

The defendant must also pay £85 in costs and a £114 surcharge.

ASHLEY THOMAS-DAVIES, 39, of Cardigan, was high on cocaine whilst driving on the A487.

Thomas-Davies was behind the wheel of a Peugeot 207 on the A487 in Cardigan on February 4.

The defendant recorded having 743µg/L of benzoylecgonine in their blood. The legal limit is 50µg/L.

Thomas-Davies admitted drug-driving, and was banned for three years at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court on May 22.

The defendant must also pay a £120 fine, £85 in costs and a £48 surcharge.

DAVID HUMPHREYS, 56, of the B4334 in Rhydlewis, was driving after using cannabis.

Humphreys was driving a Toyota Hiace on the B4334 in Rhydlewis on December 7. When tested, he recorded having 2.4µg/L of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood. The limit is 2µg/L.

He pleaded guilty to drug driving, and was disqualified for 12 months at Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on May 29.

Humphreys was fined £120 and must pay £85 in costs.

EMMA ASHCROFT, 42, of Masons Row in Aberaeron, has been banned after being caught driving high on cannabis.

Ashcroft was driving a Ford Focus on the A487 at Ffos-Y-Ffin on December 6. When tested, she recorded having 4.6µg/L of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in her blood – more than twice the  limit of 2µg/L.

She pleaded guilty at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court on May 30, and was banned from driving for a year.

Ashcroft was fined £230 and she was ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £92 surcharge.
