There are 11 Ceredigion beaches where dog restrictions are in place this summer.
From May 1 to September 30, dog owners need to be aware of areas that ban dogs completely and places where leads are required for their pets.
The restrictions are aimed at protecting bathers, but the rules do not apply to guide dogs.
Dogs are completely banned from Dolwen Beach in Aberporth and from the entire Mwnt beach.
The following beaches have partial restrictions:
Aberaeron (South beach) - Harbour Walls to the south of the Beach Parade
Aberystwyth (South Beach) - Castle Headland and first groyne to end of South Marine Terrace
Aberystwyth (North Beach) - north side of jetty to the northern end of the beach at Constitution Hill
Borth - Youth Hostel on the High Street south to RNLI station and from the RNLI station to the cliffs beneath Cliff Road.
Clarach - from the beach to the south of the river
Cei Newydd/ New Quay – Harbour beach between the pier and Penpolion and the old harbour wall next to RNLI Lifeboat Station.
Llangrannog – Nant Hawen and Pen Rhip cliff to the left
Penbryn – beach area to the south of Nant Hoffnant
Tresaith - southern part of the beach between the access steps and Carreg-y-Ddafad cliff
Dogs must be kept on leads in the following areas:
Aberaeron - Beach Parade
Dolwen Beach - along Ffordd Yr Odyn to the seashore
Borth - end of Cliff Road along the high street until the Youth Hostel
New Quay - Glanmor Terrace from its junction in High Terrace to South John Street

Meanwhile, there are multiple areas in Aberystwyth where dogs needed to be leaded such as:
- Most of the main streets of Aberystwyth town
- South beach on the pathway, extending from Castle Headland and southwards to the jetty
- North beach pathway from Castle Headland to Constitution Hill
