AN UNINSURED driver ignored road markings as he overtook three vehicles at high speed on the wrong side of the road.
John Piggot, 69, of Bro Einon in Llanybydder, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court charged with careless driving and driving without insurance.
Piggot was driving a Ford Fiesta on the A487 between the Llanddeiniol junction and Blaenplwyf on September 9.
The defendant overtook one vehicle, and as he overtook a second he ignored the road markings which indicated he should return to his own lane.

He continued driving on the wrong side of the road whilst travelling around a right-hand bend and ignoring a solid white central line on the road. He then overtook a third vehicle.
Police found that Piggot averaged 70.9mph during the manoeuvre.
The prosecution argued that Piggot’s driving “fell well below that of a reasonable and competent driver” and that he was driving without due care and attention.
Subsequent checks revealed that Piggot was not insured on the vehicle at the time.
He was fined a total of £1,100 at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on February 28. He must also pay £110 in costs and a £440 surcharge.
Piggot received 6 points on his licence for driving without insurance, and five points for careless driving.
