A SCOTTISH musician will be in Cardigan in October.
Ryan Young breathes new life into traditional Scottish music with his ‘spellbinding’ performances on the fiddle. He takes traditional and often forgotten tunes and plays them in his own way.
Ryan uses his fiddle to bring a uplifting rhythmic drive and depth of dynamics and precision, with a distinctive sound to take the listeners on an emotional and adventurous journey.
He recorded his debut album with four-time Grammy winner Jesse Lewis and launched the record at Feakle Traditional Music Festival in County Clare with accompaniment from guitarist Dennis Cahill.
Ryan has been a finalist in two BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, and in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year. He was named Up and Coming Arist of the Year at the 2017 Scots Trad Awards and nominated for the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2018. He was also awarded the Musician of the Year title from Folking.com in 2018 and was nominated for Album of the Year and was the only UK artist to perform at the World Music Conference WOMEX in 2019.
He also holds a first-class honours and masters degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Ryan Young will be in Mwldan, Cardigan, on Tuesday, October 10 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15 and are available at www.mwldan.co.uk or by calling 01239 621200 between 12pm and 8pm, Tuesday to Sunday.
