Ceredigion County Council’s latest project to improve sport and leisure facilities in the county has been given a £204,000 boost from the latest round of Sport Wales capital funding.
The 3G pitches at Cardigan and Synod Inn, which have already been completed, and the installation of the new carpet at Lampeter have all benefited from Sports Wales investment.
The next project is to upgrade the current disused floodlit tennis court area adjacent to Aberystwyth's Plascrug Leisure Centre to an all-weather multi-sport facility.
Preliminary works are taking place in order to meet the conditions of the grant. The aim is for construction works to take place over the summer months.
This upgrade at Plascrug Leisure Centre will mean that four all-weather facilities will be maintained by Ceredigion County Council.
A total investment of £1.2m will have been made in the four all-weather facilities across the county.
Funding for the 3G Pitches was received from Sport Wales, Wales Grassroots Fund and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with Sport Wales also supporting the Lampeter project.
Councillor Catrin M.S Davies, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Customer Services, said: “These facilities will provide opportunities for Ceredigion residents, of all ages, to be physically active and enjoy team sports; and are part of the ongoing efforts to create Healthy Communities throughout the county.
"Providing modern and accessible leisure facilities across the north, mid and south of Ceredigion is also a commitment that we made in our new Corporate Strategy. We would like to thank all the funders who have worked with us to create these fantastic facilities.”
