PLANS that could see additional housing for young people in Cardigan took a step forward recently.

A public meeting was held on February 28 at Penparc Young Farmer’s Club Hall where there were discussions on the housing needs of Penparc.

4CG Cymru Ltd, a local development cooperative, carried out a housing needs survey in the area and found that Penparc was in need of additional housing for young people.

The local action group for Ceredigion, Cynnal y Cardi, supports the movement and the meeting is one of several to take place to see how the community could register its own housing trust cooperative.

The meeting was organized by Councillor Clive Davies and chaired by Cris Tomos of community development charity PLANED, who has been supporting communities across west Wales to start new community-led social enterprises.

In attendance was Joanne Rees, the rural housing enabler, supported by Barcud Housing Association.

“It was great to see the support form local people who recognized the need to develop additional housing that would be controlled by the community,” said Cris Tomos.

“There was a great session on questions and answers and people could see the benefit of community led housing and to also look at other community ownership ideas.”

A second public meeting was held yesterday, March 13.
