CARDIGAN town mayor Cllr Trystan Phillips has paid tribute to Her Majesty the Queen.

“It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen,” he said.

“On behalf of Cardigan Town Council, we extend our sincere sympathies and condolences to the Royal Family.

“Her 70-year reign encompassed many of the most historical chapters known to man, and she kept to her early vow of dedicating her life to public duty – with respect and dignity.

“Her loss will be unmeasurable to so many people, who have followed her as a national and international figurehead; but we particularly remember her children and her entire family at such a sad time.”

And in a joint statement Ceredigion MP Ben Lake and MS Elin Jones also extended their 'deepest condolences to all those grieving following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II'.

“Her reign oversaw a period of great change in Ceredigion, and as we reflect on her 70 years on the throne it is clear that hers was a life dedicated to public service and duty," the statement continued.

"She kept her early promise to serve her whole life, and she fulfilled it with dignity and grace.

“The Queen was one constant in our ever-changing lives, and her loss marks a moment of shock and sadness.

"Her family, of course, will mourn her death most acutely and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.”

Meanwhile, Cllr Ifan Davies, Chairman of Ceredigion County Council, said the Queen would ‘forever be a part of our history and our generation’.

“As a mark of respect and at the request of the Chief Executive, the United Kingdom and Welsh Flags have been lowered to half-mast at Neuadd Cyngor Ceredigion, Penmorfa, Aberaeron; Canolfan Rheidol, Rhodfa Padarn, Aberystwyth; Canolfan Alun R. Edwards, Queen’s Road, Aberystwyth and County Hall, Aberaeron,” he added.
