Wales and Border Harness Racing’s event on Saturday August 6 was at Talsarn, where a beautiful sunny afternoon provided a lovely afternoon of traditional entertainment with some really good racing.
In the Grade A Dernol Yankee (Wozencraft, Llangurig) with new pilot Lynne Boxhall at the controls, led from the start dictating the race and they never looked back, winning from local horse Lakeside Pan (Elder, New Quay) while Second Affair (Perks, Presteigne) got up to be third.
The Novice race was the first on the card and Greenhill Gus (Dowse, Aberystwyth) with last week’s leading driver Oliver (OJ) Jones made the most of pole position to lead from the off.
In the nursery race, it was the homebred Fold Showman (Perks, Presteigne) driven by Oliver (OJ) Jones, who led throughout the race.
In the Baby Novice, newly-promoted Woodstone Miranda, with her owner Austin Hughes from New Radnor in the driving seat, took the lead from the start.

The dash is always a popular race and this week’s event proved to be quite exciting as the little Bethany, belonging to the Weigel family from Llanddewi Velfrey and driven by Janet Thomas, took the lead, finishing in front of Blytheview JJ (Pike, Merthyr) while local horse Lawless (Elder, Blaencelyn) was third.
The final race of the day was the Grade B Final and what a race it proved to be.
Beg For Mercy (Tromans, Newcastle Emlyn) led for most of the race but on the final straight, all the horses put in their challenges, with Whiskyandwater (Morgan, Knighton) and Lynne Boxhall finding the acceleration to claim first place from Beg For Mercy (Tromans, Newcastle Emlyn) with Llwyns Mercy (Collingwood, Huntington) in third.
