A CARDIGAN florist who challenged local schoolchildren to create their own design of a crown to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee says she was ‘overwhelmed’ by the response.

Jen James, of Teifi Blooms, came up with the idea of a competition after dressing her window as part of the Royal celebrations.

She asked children aged 5-10 to design a magnificent crown on an A4 sheet.

“We would love to display all of these designs in our jubilee window display,” she added.

“The winner will receive a beautiful jubilee-themed bouquet for their mum or that special person.”

Local county councillors Elaine Evans and Sian Maehrlein were involved in both the judging and presentation of the prizes.

Giving her reaction afterwards, Jen said: “We were totally overwhelmed by the response.

“There were so many fantastic entries that Sian Maehrlein, who judged the competition, had a tough job and we ended up giving an extra prize!

“Unfortunately, Sian was unable to attend to present the prizes herself, however we were very grateful to Elaine for stepping in to help.”

First prize went to Ivy Evans, of Ysgol Gynradd Aberteifi, second prize to Ethan Ridley, of Ysgol Cilgerran, and third prize to Hana Shimizu, also of Ysgol Cilgerran, with Menna Forster, of Ysgol Gynradd Llandudoch, named runner-up.
