THE next Cellar Bards spoken word event will feature performance poet Dominic Williams.

Alongside being a poet, performer and creative writing mentor, Mr Williams is the host and MC of Carmarthen’s Cerddi yn Cwrw.

Mr Williams was also instrumental in the formation of Cellar Bards a decade ago and it will be a rare chance for fans to hear him perform his own work as although he has performed in the likes of Ireland, Sweden and America, he rarely performs his own work at events he hosts locally.

Mr Williams is also one half of the improvised spoken-word and movement act Your Strangest Friend with contemporary dancer Stina Nilsson and part of the FYD Collective, an international group of contemporary artists from Serbia, Croatia, Sweden and Wales.

MORE NEWS:

He is a poetry editor and has worked with poets and translated work from Bengali, Turkish, Serbian and Swedish. He lectures at the Institute of Education and Humanities at the University of Wales Trinity St David and has taught creative writing in Ireland and Sweden.

A poetry collection by Mr Williams – called ‘and why we were all going’ – is among a number of his published works. Recent published works include ‘Pen & Paper: Punks in Print’ and ‘En galen man på tåget’ which is a collection of poems translated into Swedish.

Later this year, a vinyl album will be released with some of Mr Williams’ poetry accompanied by a three-piece punk band. It will also feature poetry from other contributors in Spanish, Serbian and Swedish.

The event will take place at 7.30pm on Friday, May 13 at Cellar Bar on Quay Street in Cardigan. Entry costs £3. Anyone wishing to take part in the open mic slots can sign up on the door.
