CARDIGAN’S Lee Herbert – a talented singer who was always too shy to perform live in public – will finally take centre stage as his funeral cortege passes through town next Saturday.
Described as ‘quiet and unassuming’ by his family, Lee contented himself with entertaining over 1,000 followers on the Smule social singing app.
Following his sudden death at 42, Lee’s sister and brother Katie and George and dad Peter were astonished to discover over 1,400 recordings of well-known songs Lee left behind.
And on Saturday (April 16) they will play a selection of Lee’s cover versions at Narberth Crematorium.
The cortege will leave Cardigan’s Chapel of Rest at 10.15-10.30am before driving through town past the post office where Lee was employed as a counter clerk.
The funeral service is scheduled for 11.30am at Narberth and the Herbert family are hoping for as many mourners as possible ‘to show just how much Lee was loved’.
Katie described the response to last week’s Tivy-Side article as ‘amazing’. “I can't believe how much it has been shared,” she said.
“We are very grateful for the recognition Lee is getting at this sad time.
“It is helping us get through this as a family and we are all so proud of him.”
Lee was manager of Cardigan Co-Op for several years, prior to working at the post office.
He was also a stalwart of Cardigan Theatre where his technical expertise was greatly appreciated.
