CARDIGAN soldier Nerys Jones is among a team from the Royal Army Physical Training Corps who are claiming a new world record for the fastest relay time on foot from Land’s End to John O'Groats this morning.
Nerys, 37, a former pupil at Cardigan Secondary School who hails from Y Ferwig, was among a dozen fellow PTIs who set out on the 813-mile run to raise funds for the Royal British Legion on Tuesday.
The team, who were looking to break the previous best mark of four days, 18 hours and 12 mins, reached John O’ Groats this morning after three days, 23 hours and 40 mins, having averaged sub-seven minute miles all along the way.
The record is yet to be ratified by Guinness.
in order to achieve their goal, Nerys and her companions needed to complete eight miles twice daily over four to five days at a seven-minute mile pace with only a five-hour break in between.
