AN army athlete from Cardigan is among a team from the Royal Army Physical Training Corps currently attempting to break the world record for the fastest relay time on foot from Land’s End to John O'Groats.
Nerys Jones, 37, a former pupil at Cardigan Secondary School who hails from Y Ferwig, is among fellow PTIs who have taken on the mammoth challenge in order to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.
The current world record for the 813-mile run stands at four days, 18 hours and two minutes.
In order to break it, Nerys and her comrades are having to complete eight miles twice daily over four to five days at a seven-minute mile pace with only a five-hour break in between.
The Cardi athlete completed another leg guided by the light of her headtorch at 2am this morning.
By 8am the team had covered just over 400 miles, but were facing ‘a hard push’ up the formidable hills of the Lake District.
