Fishguard Flyers Swimming Club made a splash at the Pembrokeshire County Championships, finishing second on the overall team scoreboard for the first time, behind Haverfordwest Seals.
The gala - held at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre on November 13 and 14 - produced a historic result for the ‘black and orange’ and was underpinned by great team spirit, lots of personal bests, several club records and Welsh Nationals qualification times.
Ryan Thomas, head coach of Fishguard Flyers, said: “This was always going to be a great weekend, being the first opportunity that the Club has had to all be together in what seems like forever.
"There were some nerves, but everyone showed great determination, respect, and the best team spirit in the building. The support for each other was at times deafening, but fantastic.”
Flyers’ medal count was 17 golds, 27 silvers, and 13 bronze medals. The final team positions were: 1) Haverfordwest Seals; 2) Fishguard Flyers; 3) Pembroke & District; 4) Milford Tigers; 5) Tenby Dolphins.
Fishguard finished the gala on a high, with its first ever relay gold, grabbing top spot in the 16 and over mixed medley (pictured).
Five members of Fishguard Flyers will now seek to make a mark on the national stage after qualifying for next month’s Swim Wales Winter National Championships in Swansea.
