CRYMYCH boxing twins Ioan and Garan Croft came away with a gold and silver respectively from the prestigious Golden Gong tournament at north Macedonia over the weekend.
Although most observers felt Garan was desperately unlucky not to emulate his brother’s gold medal triumph, the Cardigan ABC pair – who turn 20 on November 30 – are in excellent spirits going into the Welsh Boxing finals next week.
Should they succeed in winning a senior Welsh title at the elite finals in Cardiff on November 26 the boys would be the first Cardigan-born boxers to do so since Lee Winney in 1998.
Southpaw Ioan was at his dazzling best in north Macedonia where he booked his place in the 71kg final with relative ease.
In the final he completely outclassed his Moldovan opponent to triumph on a unanimous points decision.
Garan was unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of a highly controversial 3-2 points defeat against a Serbian opponent in the 75kg final.
