Preseli MP Stephen Crabb has welcomed news that Pembrokeshire has secured another big funding boost from UK Government.

Nine local projects supported by the MP have been successful in their bids to the new Community Renewal Fund.

The total funding comes to almost £3 million, and will be used to improve local infrastructure and skills in communities across the County.

Pembrokeshire’s applications for both the Levelling Up Fund and the Community Renewal Fund have all been successful.

Just last week £17.7 million was confirmed for ‘game-changing’ Haverfordwest Town Centre Improvement Plan.

And a further £2.9m has been confirmed from the UK Government Treasury today.

Pembrokeshire was in the first tier of areas eligible for the new Community Renewal Fund and Levelling Up Fund created by UK Government to replace EU funding.

The funds are being financed directly by the Westminster Government – working closely with local authorities.

The MP backed the successful shortlisted nine applications for Community Renewal Funding which received approval from Pembrokeshire County Council Cabinet before submission to UK Government.

The successful projects include two applications from Council departments, involving external organisations,.

12 were from outside applicants, two of which involved the Council as a ‘delivery partner’ but led by other bodies.

The Fund aims to support investment in skills, local business, communities and place and increasing employment.

Mr Crabb said: “Hot on the heels of the Levelling Up Fund success for Haverfordwest town centre, it is fantastic that a further £2.9 million has been confirmed for Pembrokeshire from the UK Community Renewal Fund.

"It is a huge vote of confidence in the quality of the bids we put forward and the team-work at a local level.”

“Together with the £17.7 million for Haverfordwest, this new project funding will help to strengthen the County’s economy by targeting investment in skills, stronger communities and increased employment.

"Success will now depend on how well these projects get implemented, but I am thrilled that we have got them over the first hurdle and brought this money to Pembrokeshire.”
