CEREDIGION MP Ben Lake has intervened in the continuing row over disruption to Ceredigion County Council’s waste collection service.
Despite rising complaints of uncollected rubbish across the south of the county, Ceredigion County Council have mounted a robust defence of the operation.
“We endeavour to provide a high-quality reliable waste collection service that our customers expect and deserve," a spokesperson said last week.
“Taking into account we provide weekly collections of various waste streams from approximately 31,000 domestic properties across Ceredigion the reflective low level of feedback received suggests and supports this."
But Mr Lake has confirmed that he has been contacted by a number of constituents expressing concerns.
“I shall be raising these issues with the county council to better understand the causes of the disruption, and to press for them to be addressed as a matter of urgency,” he added.
Meanwhile, a resident of Cardigan’s St Mary’s Street claims the county council are creating a public health hazard by not collecting waste on the scheduled days.
"Hard-lidded containers should be given to each household,” Kathleen Martin told the Tivy-Side.
"These bags are so thin that vermin can get into them on doorsteps in seconds – yet Ceredigion Council gloat that they are the second-best waste-collecting authority in Wales.
“It’s offering daily food to vermin as different areas put out their refuse on different days – even paper is food for rats."
