RESIDENTS of a Cardigan street are fuming as their rubbish has not been collected for almost a week.
People living in St Mary Street were expecting all rubbish – including clear and black bags along with food and bottle bins – to be collected on Friday.
“Many of us have had to re-bag our refuse as most are now split open,” resident Kathleen Martin told the Tivy-Side.
“I have seen a rat there on three occasions since Friday when walking the dog and cats and jackdaws are all around for pickings.
“Not nice in 2021 when Cardigan is trying to win all these accolades such as being a ‘disability- friendly’ town.
“It certainly hasn’t been for the past few days as no wheelchair can pass along the pavements because of rubbish bags and pedestrians have to walk in the road.
“I know Cllr Catrin Miles has approached Ceredigion County Council yet those bags still remain here.
“The cost of leafleting residents to explain the situation is surely minimal compared to other county council expenses?
“Residents are now threatening not to pay the monthly payments on their community charge because the street is a disgrace.”
Cllr Miles said she was aware of a problem with refuse vehicles being out of action.
“I recognise residents’ frustration and am doing everything to press for an early collection,” she added.
“The county council are sending a street-cleaning team into St Mary Street today and a refuse collection team this Friday.
“I very much hope that things will be back to normal soon.”
