A new development to bring professional local Welsh art to the people and to the community of west Wales is to be launched in Aberaeron on Friday (July 23).
The new proprietors of the Feathers Hotel in Aberaeron - Brid and Stefano - have relocated from Tuscany and in addition to providing top class accommodation and food they have decided to establish a gallery of Welsh local art as part of their new venture in Wales.
Before the doors were open discussions were well in advance with three professional Ceredigion artists - Wynne Melville Jones, Llandre; Charlotte Baxter, Llangwyryfon and Phil Huckin, Pennant. All three were searching for a suitable place to show their artwork in Aberaeron.
Elin Jones MS, president of the Senedd, who lives in Aberaeron, will officially open the gallery at 6pm.
Due to the pandemic the total number of guests is limited.
One of the three artists Wynne Melville Jones said he was delighted to have been invited to participate in the joint exhibition with artists of the calibre of Charlotte Baxter and Phil Huckin. “I am an ardent admirer of their work. We represent three very distinct and different styles with our artwork and the work is displayed to the highest standard.
“Although Aberaeron has developed into a magnet for visitors from all over Ceredigion and further afield I have not had my work displayed in the town even though a number of my paintings have been inspired by the town and surrounding area.
“This gallery could develop into a popular new focus for Welsh art and make a valuable contribution to the economic and cultural recovery of west Wales after the devastating effects of Covid 19”, he said.
