‘CARDIGAN will not be the same without him.’
That was the reaction of town mayor Cllr Debra Griffiths to Thursday’s news that much-loved Cardigan pop musician Wyn Jones had lost his prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 61.
A founder and mainstay of the legendary Ail Symudiad, as well as Fflach Records, Mr Jones was said to have died peacefully at his brother’s Blaenffos home.
His funeral will take place at Pen-y-bryn tomorrow (Wednesday), after the cortege has passed through town at around 11.45 am.
“Very sad news,” said Cllr Griffiths. “Cardigan will not be the same without Wyn.
“A true gentleman who served as a town councillor who was always ready to help. I remember going to watch him play in Ail Symudiad with his brother, Richard.
“Only the other day we were watching clips of the band when they first started out.
Our hearts go out to Richard and the family - cysga'n dawel, Wyn.”
A Facebook post by Cardigan undertaker Peter Evans confirmed the ‘strictly private service for immediate family and closest friends only’ would take place at Pen-y-bryn Cemetery at 12 noon.
“If anyone would like to pay their respects, Wyn will be making one last journey through the town he loved and held very close to his heart,” it continued.
“The cortege will be leaving his family home Goginau, Tenby Road, at approximately 11:45am and travelling through the high street via Cardigan old bridge before making its way to his final resting place with his parents in Pen-y-bryn."
