COVID couldn’t cancel Christmas in Cardigan as the local community rallied aroundr.

Around 20 volunteers spread some socially-distanced festive cheer around the town on Christmas Day by delivering meals to 60 people who might otherwise have been on their own or missed out on a meal.

All the Christmas dinners were freshly prepared and packed at Café Emlyn at Tanygroes with the support of a £600 grant from Western Power before being safely handed out across Cardigan , Penparc, Llechryd, Gwbert and Ferwig areas.

Cardigan mayor Cllr Clive Davies said: “This project wouldn’t have happened without the support of Gwyneth Jones from Community Connectors, Carys Owens from Ceredigion CC, Sue Lewis from Age Cymru, Rhiannon Ling from West Wales Housing and a team of marvellous volunteers.

“Thank you all for your kindness in helping with this project.

“Thanks also to Caffi Emlyn who prepared and packed the meals and to Western Power who provided the funding to make it a reality.

“We all found time to have a doorstep chat about all sorts, all hoping for a better 2021 and all those who received a meal also received a card.

“Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and in the spirit of community which has been more evident this year, check and chat with others in your neighbourhood during this festive period.”
